This curated Mossel Bay experience brings together ancient history, vibrant local art, and the relaxed charm of a countryside wine estate — a journey that moves beautifully from the origins of humankind to the flavours of the modern Garden Route.

Your day beings with a burst of colour as you walk through the Mosaic Tunnel at Pinnacle Point. This 50‑metre walkway has been transformed into an open‑air gallery featuring 92 handcrafted mosaic panels. Each artwork celebrates Mossel Bay’s heritage, marine life, and cultural identity, creating a vibrant passageway between the cliffs and the sea. It’s a quick, uplifting experience that bridges the ancient world of the caves with the living creativity of the local community.

From there you start the cliff side walk to the Point of Human Origin, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world. Perched above the Indian Ocean, this guided experience takes you down over 200 wooden steps into Cave 13B, where early modern humans lived more than 160,000 years ago. As you sit in the cave and enjoy its breathtaking coastal views, you’ll uncover the remarkable story of early human behaviour, survival, and creativity — a powerful reminder of our shared beginnings.

We then continue through scenic countryside to a charming local wine estate, where you’ll unwind with a food and wine pairing or wine tasting of their handcrafted South African wines. Afterwards enjoy a delicious platter style lunch with an array of cheeses, charcuteries and bread.

Please note a moderate level of fitness is required for this excursion as the decent and ascent to and from the caves can be physically challenging. For those not wanting to do the full cliff side walk and steps down into the cave an option is available to remain at the Pinnacle Point Clubhouse to enjoy the spectacular views whilst the approximately one hour guided tour of the caves is taking place.
